Hublot is one of the brands that from time to time love to shock with a completely unexpected product. Its watchmakers and engineers are clearly artisans of form and functionality as this year they managed to come up with one of the most intriguing watches ever made. The Hublot Masterpiece MP-07 is the brand’s new addition, a novelty that debuted at the Baselworld 2016 where it shined throughout the event due to its revolutionary aesthetics and mind-blowing complications. It is just that type of timepiece that changes everything you knew about modern watchmaking.
At the Baselworld 2016, Hublot seized the opportunity to get everyone’s attention by unveiling the remarkable and new MP-07 42 Days Power Reserve watch, an innovative design that seeks to overthrow the considerably more expensive MP-05 La Ferrari, a model that was launched in 2013. Their design is different. While the Ferrari version preferred rounded shapes, the MP-07 is clearly a follower of the edgier rectangular forms. Also, I can’t help but notice that the MP-05 La Ferrari has a more futuristic look whereas the MP-05 has a slightly traditional flair.
Hublot created the Masterpiece MP-07 by using a vertical disposed movement which features nine series-linked barrels. The tourbillon can be seen in action due to the round convex lens that is located on the side of the watch. The timepiece is engineered so that you can easily read it while driving your car. It is that kind of watch that gives you a certain modern feel and makes you look more sophisticated and bold. And the best part is that its moderate design makes it suitable for any age, style or personality.
The rectangular and unconventional dial has an unusual presentation for its most important features. The hours and minutes are located on the bottom left side, the seconds are positioned on the upper right while the power reserve can be found on the bottom right. This unique dial layout is nicely enhanced by a black and white chromatic with bright red accents. Furthermore, the case is manufactured from microblasted black PVD titanium and the strap is manufactured from an extremely durable black smooth rubber.
The Hublot Masterpiece MP-07 comes with an impressive 42-day power reserve and the very interesting thing about this watch is that it can be wound and set only with an electric-powered winding drill. Once again, this confirms the fact that this watch is an exclusive piece that requires the skills and appreciation of a true watch enthusiast.
So far, Hublot has been very secretive about this model. Even though it has been launched at the Baselworld 2016 show months ago it wasn’t posted on their website yet. There is little information disclosed about the full potential and functionality of the MP-07. By presenting just a few details about the product, the brand preserves its exclusive nature and augments its value by the day. Basically, the watch was exhibited in a presentation case and was presented as the continuation of the Hublot’s range-topping Masterpiece Collection, an evolution of the Ferrati MP-05.
The Hublot Masterpiece MP-07 has a retail price of $276,000 and the watch is also offered in a diamonds version which costs $920,000. This contemporary timepiece with a revolutionary verticalized movement is the brand’s continuation for its high end Mastepiece Collection, a series of watches designed to impress with futuristic features and aesthetics.
